Breakfast at The Omelette Parlor
This weekend, we decided to hit up the Omelette Parlor for breakfast. It looks a little icky from the outside haha, but don't be scared- It's pretty good. Colorado has a thing about using an old barn or farm house and turning it into an establishment. I still have to get used to it, I guess. The idea of entering an old farm house for food sounds dirty. But this place was anything but dirty

Unfortunately, we forgot to take into account that it was Valentine's weekend. Not to worry, the wait was only 10 minutes for a table. So we put ourselves on the list and waited out front.
After about 15 minutes, I noticed that people who had arrived after us were being sat and we were still standing around getting hungrier by the minute. (My boyfriend was literally considering walking across the street to pizza hut instead haha.) I went inside to check on our status. I saw my name on the sheet "Allie - 2" and asked the woman why she had skipped us? (There were 4 names after us that had been crossed out) She didn't know but promised we'd be sat next.
It turns out, the host thought it said "My - 2" and when nobody responded to this absolutely absurd name that she called out, she assumed that "My" had left instead of maybe double-checking her handwriting? I guess she also didn't notice that every time she came out to announce the next table to be sat, this couple (::cough cough:: us!) who had been standing in front of the door for the last 20 minutes was still standing there. But it's fine. Not everyone can have common sense.
(And no, I'm not being a b*tch. I've been a host before and she was a bad host. Period. We almost left because of her and that's a big no-no.)
We were eventually sat and everything changed once we were finally inside. The place is very quirky. With painted paneling on the walls, crown molding, and murals in random places. Windows, mirrors and fireplaces in various locations. It was a hodge podge of homeliness- like your grandma's house and backyard all in one. I expected to see some garden gnomes. And it's huge. There were several hallways to other rooms which were also full of knick-knacks and more tables.

Our server was sweet and we ordered a "World Arena" and the "Eggs Benedict- Amy's Way" (that means with spinach). We each started with a mug of coffee, and I ordered an orange juice.
I don't actually like coffee, so don't ask my opinion of it. It wasn't awful, I guess. I just needed to wake up. The ORANGE JUICE, on the other hand was stellar! I took one sip and said "Babe- you HAVE to taste this, they squeezed it this morning!" This was not from concentrate or some economy-sized pitcher of juice that had been in the fridge for days or weeks. You could TASTE the freshness. When the server came back, he got himself a cup and asked the waitress how it was made. She said "it's fresh squeezed." Told you so!! The flavor whore knows what's up.

Our food arrived in a very timely manner, considering the place was as packed as it was. High fives to the cooks for keeping up with the crowd. Our plates were LOADED. I like when that happens. I don't think you could see my plate at all. Naked plates make you feel ripped off. It's just a fact of life.

The food was wonderful. My boyfriend enjoyed his "World Arena" very much and cleared his plate rather quickly. And I loved my eggs Benedict. I make my own hollandaise, so I know what it's supposed to taste like, and I know when someone's trying to fake it and just put yellowish-sauce on your plate and call it hollandaise. This is usually my benedict pet peeve- and my boyfriend knows this. So when he asked if it was real sauce and I said yes, he looked pleasantly surprised. My only complaint would be that the spinach was fresh spinach and not wilted. The random crunch and strong flavor of the fresh spinach on my hollandaise-soaked and very un-crunchy meal just didn't work for me. But other than that it was a big thumbs up.
They offer a 10% discount to military and to UCCS Students. Hooray discounts! All-in-all (minus the seating issues) we had a good experience and would recommend the Omelette Parlor for your next breakfast outting. (They also serve Bloody Marys. What a perfect place to recover from a hangover!)
